You can listen to the update or read it:
Hey, this is Christopher. Some of you may have noticed I’ve been quiet lately—not releasing a new story since March.
The weird year continues rolling along. I’ve mentioned the sudden and unexpected passing of my mom last summer (in fact, I’m recording this the day the one-year anniversary of her death.) Since then, my mother-in-law’s health has not been great, requiring travel to Missouri.
Throw in a complete set of new duties at work when someone left for another department and I got her job…and it’s been a busy—and stressful—spring and summer.
However, the next Not About Lumberjacks story, “Strange Days in Mûn Dell” is nearing a recording date. As I mentioned at the end of the last episode, it’s about a town in northern Illinois that undergoes a sudden (and very strange) transformation. (And yes, I know I said several towns in the last episode’s outro, but I decided to just use my hometown of Mundelein, Illinois.)
Along the way, “Strange Days in Mûn Dell” has become the longest Not About Lumberjacks story to date. (And I feel safe in saying “forever,” unless I ever decide to release a novella I’ve wanted to record as a stand-alone episode.) So, while some months were skipped, the next story is the length of several typical stories I release.
That means time dedicated to recording, cleaning the narration track, and getting it all together, but the next release is a big one!
Also along the way, the next story became a sort of sequel to the seventh Not About Lumberjacks story, “The Other Side.”
While it’s not required to be familiar with “The Other Side” to enjoy “Strange Days in Mûn Dell,” it wouldn’t hurt. The hardest thing about writing the current story has been considering how to share information from that earlier story without it feeling like forced info dumps.
So, know this: a new Not About Lumberjacks story is on its way…and it’s a chonker of a tale!
Until then, be mighty…and keep your axes sharp.
